Trade Nations was the first game of this type (village construction) that I played, and when I heard about Battle Nations I was very excited. I enjoyed playing Battle Nations and became heavily involved with the Blackwater Ops Alliance (BOA), one of the early BN "clans". I had created a spreadsheet of troop types using data I was able to gather from the game files. As time went on, BN continued to grow with more units (though very few useful units) and some new elements to the game. For me, the disenchantment with BN began about the time they introduced the "Boss Strikes" (BX). Just before the BX I had accumulated a lot of various resources, mostly because I could. You could exceed your storage capacity by capturing resources, but you could not gather or make resources if you were over your storage limit. I had gathered about 1M wood when Z2 changed the game and limited you to the amount of storage. If you had more resources than storage, they were taken away -- despite an earlier promise by the developers that they would never take away resources from players. Of course, the developer that made that statement (in the Z2 forum) was no longer posting and probably wasn't even with Z2 any longer. At that point I really lost interest in BN. I continued to upgrade my base, getting all resource collectors, resource processors, stores, barracks, etc. to their maximum, but did not bother with most of the missions or invaders. Now I very seldom play. I check in once in a while to see if there is a BX, and try to help my "guild" get to Tier 3. The introduction of the BX also resulted in the demise of BOA, due to differences in opinion of how BOA should be run between those who were very aggressive in BX and those who weren't. I followed what was left of BOA into several other games: Clash of Clans (which I still play), Game of War (which I quit), and Boom Beach (the game I am most active in). Some of us still maintain the BOA presence in CoC and BB.
In my opinion, the BN has become bloated (too many units, and most useless) and is no longer worth playing. It is showing signs of suffering from the same kind of inattention that ultimately killed off Trade Nations. There has not been an update in a very long time, no real new content, and just a few occasional BX events. I am still bitter about Z2 taking away resources. With Trade Nations I only felt neglected, not robbed.
Are any of you still playing BN? I would be interested in hearing why folks are still active in that game.
